Orr Overpowers Uplift to Advance to Title Game

Two schools from the Chicago Public League squared off in the second of two Friday night semifinals at the Proviso West Holiday Tournament. The Spartans of Orr High School and the Titans of Uplift High School battled for the right to meet Whitney Young in Saturday night’s championship game. This game was over early as Orr completely dominated in the first 16 minutes, building a 51-13 lead and continuing on to a 92-38 win.

Orr, who has held their opponents to 34 percent shooting in their three tournament games thus far, will take on the defending tournament champions at 7:00. Uplift (8-5) will play Hillcrest in the third place game at 5:30.

Raekwon Drake shot 10-13 and led the Spartans’ scoring assault with 24 points. Dannie Smith was 7-10 from the field as part of an 18-point effort, and Chase Adams scored 17 points, 10 in the first quarter to get the Spartans rolling.

DeAndre Vortes was the only Titan in double figures with 12 points.

The Spartans led 26-6 after one quarter and could not be slowed. Orr shot 61 percent for the game (36-59) while winning the battle on the boards 40-30 and forcing 22 Titan turnovers.
