Uplift Shakes Off Slow Start To Top Hillcrest

The Uplift Titans (9-5) trailed by as many as 16 in the first quarter before rallying for a 69-54 win over the Hillcrest Hawks (11-4) in the 2017 Proviso West Holiday Tournament third-place game.

Uplift trimmed the lead down to seven, 30-23, at the half and then outscored the Hawks 16-6 in the third quarter to take a 39-36 lead before putting Hillcrest away with a huge 30-point effort in the fourth.

Detalian Brown led a balanced Titans’ attack, scoring a game-high 20 points on 7-for-11 shooting, including hitting four out of five attempts from beyond the three-point stripe. Markese Jacobs scored 12 of his 16 points in the second half, including eight in the fourth quarter. Michael Flenory and DeAndre Vortes rounded out four in double-figure scoring for Uplift with 13 and ten points apiece.

For the Hawks, Jalen Hughes scored 19 points while Robert Harvey added 17 in the losing effort.

The third-place finish is the second third-place finish for the Titans who topped Fenwick, 69-65, in the 2016 third-place game, while Hillcrest finishes in the final four for the sixth time in 19 Proviso West Holiday Tournament appearances.
